Iowa Code Sec. 598.19A states that parties to any action which involves the issues of child custody or visitation must participate in a course to educate and sensitize the parties to the needs of any child or party during and subsequent to the proceeding within forty-five days of the service of notice and petition for the action or within forty-five days of the service of notice and application for modification of an order. Each party shall submit a certification of completion of the course to the court prior to the granting of a final decree or the entry of an order.
You should enroll in the Impact of Divorce on Children to meet this requirement, however, you may enroll in both the IODC and IODA courses (save $7.00).
Note: We have been advised that some counties in Iowa do not accept online classes. These include Benton, Iowa, Jones, Johnson, Linn and Tama. For other counties, please check with your attorney or the Court to ensure that they accept online classes.
